Overview

The Strokes, an indie rock band from New York City, released their debut album, "Is This It" in 2001. This 11 track album was 35 minutes and 11 seconds of pure art. Their most successful song on this album was "Hard to Explain", while other tracks such as "Last Nite" and "Someday" were also runner ups. This album as a whole inspired many musicians and the genre of rock itself.

Is this nonexistent?

Before the reign of "Is This It", Julian Casablancas, a singer from New York City, began playing in a band with his friends, Nikolai Fraiture, Albert Hammond Jr., Nick Valensi, and Fabrizio Moretti in 1998. They eventually released an EP, The Modern Age, in 2001. Following the success of their first EP, they released the "Is This It" album. This album was the biggest sensation of the New York rock scene, especially since prior it was very dull. The Strokes were considered the heroes of rock due to this.

What’s so special?

The Strokes seem to create these intricate songs, including drums, bass, lead and rhythm guitars, keyboards, and vocals. By layering melodies throughout their music, it gives their sound a sort of "out of this world" feel. It’s like there is so much happening in the song but it’s not overwhelming. This is shown throughout their entire discography.

My feelings are more important than yours

No the title is not how we feel, it’s a lyric from The Strokes song "Razorblade". Here’s our opinions of The Strokes.

Dallas: I cannot lie the Strokes are my FAVORITE band of all time, they just know how to do music right. These guys make music seem so difficult with how extremely talented their songwriting is. They can convey a story out of complete nonsense words, but somehow it works. My favorite song happens to infact be "Razorblade". It truly shows the complexity of their riffs in the first few seconds. I mean that’s insane right? Anyways, I love you Albert Hammond Jr. and Fabrizio Moretti (you are in fact hanging on my wall).

Jordin: The strokes was one of the first bands I ever stared listening to as a kid especially with my mom being alternative. Julian Casablancas voice in my opinion always had a good range which was shown in almost every album he did. My most favorite songs are Trying Your Luck from the Is This It album and I'll Try Anything Once (You Only Live Once Demo) because they both give off different vibes but still have personal meaning in their lyrics. Almost every album of theres is a 10 and Julian Casablancas please notice me I love you.
